Week of January 25th

Dear 4A Families,

In person learning is finally here! We are so thrilled to welcome our fourth graders back to campus on Wednesday. We have lots of information to share about the return, and our remote learners as well as Catholic Schools Week.

Returning to School:

Our official “first day” is this Wednesday, January 27th. You received an email with more details about the return to school plan on Friday, and you can get all the information by clicking on the “In Person and Remote Learning Information” tab at the top of the page. Don’t forget, starting this week, Fridays are completely asynchronous. Students will still receive a checklist with work for the day.

4A students will enter at the front kindergarten doors. Each student will be assigned a cubby for their backpacks, lunches and coats.  

Students returning to school need to bring:

• Box with all materials: including Reindeer Writing, Cool School News and MLK Quote Poster.
• iPad and charger
• Filer
• Lunch
• Water bottle
• Raincoat with a hood
• Students should wear their red Holy Rosary sweatshirts, or sweaters on uniform days. (Not gator gear). The classroom will be cool, as we will keep the windows open.  Students can wear their coat in class if needed.  If they have a coat (other than the raincoat) that might be more comfortable to wear in class they could bring that along with their raincoat.

Staying Remote?:

If your child is staying remote, s/he will continue to participate through Zoom. Students will log on to zoom every morning at 8:30 and log off at 2:45 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and at 1:45 on Wednesdays.  Students will continue to follow the schedule provided on the daily checklists.  We will be setting up regular times to check in with remote students on Fridays along with ongoing check-ins during the school days. For this week only, all remote learners will be partly asynchronous on Wednesday, 1/27 and Thursday, 1/28, as the in-person learners go through campus expectations and routines. Please use the daily checklist for a suggested schedule and assignments when not online with the class.  Thank you for your understanding as we adjust to in-person learning.

Return-to-School Reminders from the Office:

Attendance: If your child needs to leave school early for an appointment, please email or call the office ahead of time. We will do our best to have your child waiting for you in the office when you arrive. It is also less disruptive to the class if the teacher is aware in advance. When sending absence and tardy announcements to the teacher and copy the office at office@holyrosaryws.org.  The office records the attendance and this will avoid us from having to call you to find out the reason for the tardiness or absence.

Medication Forms: If your child needs to take medication during the school day, whether is it daily or on an as-needed basis, please fill out the Archdiocese form. Have your doctor sign it and return it to the office with the medication clearly labeled with your child’s name. Medications such as ibuprofen, antacids and even cough drops cannot be administered without the official form.

Forgotten Items: If your child forgets their lunch, coat or homework, please leave the item with your child’s name on it in the box outside the main office doors. It will be delivered to your child.

Materials Pick-Up Days For Remote Learners:

If your child is continuing with remote learning (now to be called “Zoomers”) this Friday, January 29th, 12:00-4:00 and Saturday, January 30th, 9:00-12:00 are the next pick up days.   All remote 4th grade students will receive materials labeled for each subject area and other miscellaneous items. Prior to pick-up day, please help your child organize their filer and materials. This includes removing completed papers that have been submitted and neatly putting them in the red “Completed Work” folder. After receiving materials, please assist your child with carefully filing packets and organizing the new materials. Plan on weekly pick ups as we move forward. For those of you that are not able to get in each week we will mail materials to you.

4th Grade Auction Project: 

The kids should have received their first auction project kit (origami paper and instructions) at last materials pick-up.  Each 4th grader should make 3-4 doves each, using the paper included.  Please know that they do not need to be perfect. Also, we may send home a second project kit in February if needed.

Catholic Schools Week Certificate Delivery Service Project:

Thank you to those families who volunteered to deliver certificates to local businesses!. This week, we will provide a script for your 4^th grader to read as they deliver the certificate along with the certificates you are to deliver. We ask that your child wear his/her Holy Rosary uniform (with the red sweatshirt) when these deliveries are made. We would love any pictures you would be able to take as the certificates are delivered. Please let us know if you have any questions, and thank you for your support of these very special deliveries!  The certificates will come home with in-person learners on Thursday, and for remote families in the Friday/Saturday pick up.
