Dear 4A Families,
Happy last week of March. We made it through the long awaited accreditation site visit last week. I was so proud of the friendliness and openness of the students when interacting with the team. It is a great blessing to be a part of this wonderful community.
Last week we also had the first of our oral biography presentations. Erik, Oscar and Ruben all gave excellent presenations. Be sure to let me know if you have any last minute questions. We are all looking forward to an entertaining and informative week when the remainder of the students present. Thank you all for your hard work assisting your child in preparing for this big project.
Lent: Thank you for holding off on our Lenten collections until after the site visit. We are now ready to collect our items. Thank you for your support in caring for those less fortunate.
Focus: All students (and teachers) at Holy Rosary are asked to do outreach in three ways during Lent.
- The 4th grade students are collecting for the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Seattle
Most needed items:
Blankets
Socks
Personal hygiene items such as soap, deodorant, lotion, toothbrushes and toothpaste, etc.
- Everyone is asked to bring in at least one can of food for the Holy Rosary food bank.
- A monetary collection. We are collecting for our Ugandan students and the Rice Bowl.
Please collect and send in any of the above items from now until Holy Thursday, April 13th.. It would be wonderful if the students could do some extra chores at home to earn their own money to purchase items. Anything you can donate is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Math: “Fraction Action” continues in 4th grade. Equivalent fractions, simplest form, mixed numbers, improper fractions, adding and subtracting are all in the lessons this week. We will continue to work to complete most math homework at school this week.
Language Arts/Reading: Today the students will be bringing home a direction packet for the Flat Stanley project. We will be completing the first entry at school this week, and then the journals will come home. The students will all have their flat people laminated and ready to go by Tuesday, so pictures and rough drafts can be started right away.
There will not be a spelling test this week.
Social Studies: Last week we set up our Oregon Trail simulation and shopped for the trip. The student “family groups” will work through the trials and tribulations of the trail, and hope to make it to Oregon Territory!
Religion: Our study of the Beatitudes will get into full swing this week. We will focus on how the Beatitudes are part of our daily life and how they can help us find true happiness. The students will also receive the second Touching Safety lesson from the Archdiocese this week. The topic for the spring lesson is: Empowering children to tell a safe adult when something bad, uncomfortable, or confusing happens is an important aspect of child safety. Look for an overview of the lesson to come home with your child by Friday. You can also access the content and an overview of the program here.
Brown Bag Fridays for St Martin de Porres continue this Friday. The extra item this week is men’s gloves.
This Friday is a half-day for the auction set up. Thank you all for your support of the auction and our wonderful class cookbook. I know so much work, by so many volunteers, goes into this important fund-raiser.
