Week of May 13th

Dear 4A Families,

I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful Mother’s Day Weekend and Happy Mother’s Day to all of our wonderful 4th grade moms. If you did not receive your special card, please check your child’s filer!  If you have not done so yet, please turn in your signed field trip permission slip for the Underground Tour/Alki.  You will also be receiving another permission slip for Field Day.  It is on goldenrod paper.

This Thursday the 16th is the Big Bake Sale!

All families are asked to send in some delicious treats to sell on Thursday. Some students have asked how much to bring, we usually say about two dozen, but of course it depends on what you are making. Students should bring their treats into the School Hall in the morning. There will be tables set up when you arrive. To start, please place the items on the back tables. Be sure to label all non-disposable bakeware , etc., with your family name so that we can get all back to the right people.  If the items you bring are truly nut free or gluten free please label them.  We will place these items in a special spot. We will be organizing and pricing the items during set-up. If you will be helping out meet us in the school hall at 9:30 for set up—or anytime between 9:30 and 1:00.   Thank you all in advance for both the baked good and assistance!  If you find yourself available last minute feel free to just show up— are all welcome! This is always such a fun event—

Talent Show on Friday, May 17th!

We have many students who are sharing their diverse talents with us. There are two acts, one in the morning beginning at 9:30 and a second in the afternoon.   The theme this year is Disney.  All HRS students can wear free dress in this theme. Disney offers lots of characters to choose from!  Be creative.

ZZ1B546369Flat Stanley Journals: The Journals are due next Wednesday, May 22nd. Be sure that the entries are checked over carefully and edited before they are turned in. The students should read each entry aloud–and do as much editing on their own as they can.  If you need me to print any pictures, feel free to send them to me.

untitledMystery Book:  All students should be reading their mystery books nightly.  Last week the students brought home a Book Report Planner sheet that is due by the 15th.  I will be reviewing the expectations for both the book report and Flat Stanley project in class this week

Spelling: There will not be a spelling test this week  but the words for a test that will take place next Thursday the 23rd came home with students last Friday.  Lesson 23 list

Social Studies: The students have a test on WA regions this Tuesday. (Note, the date on the pdf is not correct.  The test is Tuesday, May 14th)  The students need to know the names and locations of the six regions of the state. They have a study sheet in their filer.  Perfect spelling is not required, but it should be clear they know the name of each region.

Science: This week we will be reviewing the life cycle of paper. Learning the life cycle of a technology helps to recognize whether the technology is green, or good for the environment. The students will finish out the week making homemade recycled paper.

Math:  We will be wrapping up our second chapter in fractions this week and moving into decimals.  We are also reviewing and working with geometry skills and terms.  I will give the students time to start their homework in class on Monday and Tuesday.  I will have the students bring home their homework however for you to look over for accuracy.  Thank you!  There will not be math homework Wednesday night to give time for the bake sale.

Homework:

  • Math homework if not completed in class. Thank you for checking over your child’s work.
  • Fresh bake sale goodies to school on Thursday morning
  • Spelling test for Lesson 23 next Thursday, May 23rd
  • Flat Stanley due next Tuesday, May 22nd
  • Mystery Book Report
  • Learn the Memorare

 Have an excellent week everyone!
