Week of May 16th

ZZ68E00B93Dear 4A Families,

The bake sale last week was a huge success. The 4th graders had such a great time being “in charge” of the event. We raised about $870, which is excellent! I want to thank you all for the delicious treats that were brought in and for the hard work our parent helpers provided on the day. The bake sale could not take place without your support.

The big week of the Oral Biographies has arrived. Last week Giorgio presented his oral biography on Steve Jobs and he gave an outstanding talk! If you have any questions please let me know.

ZZ209DEF14Check your child’s filer on Monday for two permission slips. The pink one is for Field Day next Friday, May 27th. If your child will not be here this day, please send in the form letting me know. That way I won’t have to bug you to send in your permission slip. 4A voted wear neon and black as their field day colors.

The second permission slip is for the Underground Tour and Alki Beach picnic on June 8th. It will be on blue paper. We would like both permission slips returned no later than next Tuesday the 24th—the sooner the better. For the Alki trip parent drivers do need to pay which will be indicated on the slip. Thank you!

Tuesday we will be meeting with our Faith Families in the morning and we also have a School Mass at 2:00. Students need to wear their uniforms this day.

Social Studies: Look for corrected the corrected mountain and rivers test in your child’s filer. The next test will be on Washington cities on June 1st. All students have a study sheet and there is also an online practice site for the cities at this link.   Yakima did not get included on the online test, but it is on the study sheet.

Science: Last week we completed two different sail designs using two different materials. On Wednesday we will be testing our sails and looking at which design did better and why. The students will then have the opportunity to make corrections to improve the sail design they think is the best and make it even better

Math: As we finish up the year our math topics will include work with decimal fractions, geometry and measurement. We will also be doing some review of skills to help the students prepare for a math final that will take place June 2nd or 3rd. Students should keep up with their math fact practice!!

untitledHomework: There will not be a spelling test this week, but there will be one next Thursday, May 26th. The spelling list for this test will come home this Thursday.  Most math will be completed at school.  Keep reviewing math facts on Xtramath.

Have an excellent week everyone!
