I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful Mother’s Day Weekend and a belated Happy Mother’s Day to all of our wonderful 4th grade moms. If you did not receive your special card, please check your child’s filer!
We have an exciting week ahead—
On Thursday we have the big bake sale!
All families are asked to send in some delicious treats to sell on Thursday. Students can bring their treats into the School Hall. There will be tables set up when you arrive. To start, please place the items on the back tables. We will be organizing and pricing the items during set-up. If you will be helping out meet us in the school hall at 10:00 for set up—or anytime you can stop by between 10:00 and 1:00. Thank you all in advance for both the baked good and assistance! This is always such a fun event—
This Friday we get to enjoy the talented students of Holy Rosary as they perform in our annual Talent Show! The theme this year is 80’s Workout. Headbands, neon, leg warmers…should be like totally tubular! Remember to follow all free dress expectations.
Our final field trip has officially been scheduled for Wednesday, June 8th. This is always a fun way to end the school year. We start the day with some interesting Seattle history on the Underground Tour. We will then head to the landing point of the Denny Party (Alki Beach) to eat our lunches and have some play time to celebrate a great year. Permission slips will come home later this week.
Social Studies: The WA state mountains and rivers test will take place this Wednesday. The students all have study sheet in their filers and they should also use the online practice site to review.
Science: This week we are looking at sail design. We will be discussing the properties of materials used to make sails and how those properties affect how well the sails catch the wind. We will then make predictions on which materials will catch the wind the best. The students will select materials and design their own sail. Finally, we will test the different sails by measuring how far down a track they move when blown by a fan.
Math: We have been adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions. This is a short chapter that we will wrap up this week, and we will then move to a chapter on decimal fractions.
Reading: We continue to move through the wonderful mystery/adventure of From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. You will find recent corrected tests from the first two chapters in your child’s filer.
Homework: As promised, most homework time this week will be dedicated to oral biography preparation. Our first presentation will take place this Wednesday by Giorgio! There will not be spelling tests this week or next. Be sure to reserve Wednesday night for baking!
