Dear 4A Families,
The 4th grade students are very busy with their saint reports and preparations for the upcoming Masses. More detailed information on this topic is below. Thank you for returning the signed mid trip envelopes by Friday this week. Keep the mid trim and MAP scores.
Friday, November 1st is the All Saints’ Day Mass.
Your child will wear their saint costume to school that day. If you need ideas for a costume, you can look here(scroll to the bottom). Last week the students that will have reading/singing parts were assigned and they should have their part in their filer. Thank you for practicing with your children–having them read slowly and clearly so that they can be understood on the microphone. We will have our first practices in the church on Thursday and Friday this week. If your child is doing an interview during one of the homilies we will be helping the students prepare and send home a script for them to practice.
Spelling: Spelling words for Review Unit 6 are in your child’s filer. This test will have 50 words to review from our first 5 units. The Friday test will have 30 of these words.
Reading: This week, students will be finishing up their postcard from the barn. We will be moving on to Ch. 4 and discussing character traits, building vocabulary and working on picking quotes that represent each character.
Math: We will be taking the chapter two test on Tuesday this week. Monday homework will be review for the test. Thank you for going over the HW with your children. Wednesday we begin our units on multiplication and division. Along with our class work, students are required to master their multiplication facts from 0-12. Please have your child practice on Xtra Math at least 3x per week at home along with our practice at school. All students will be moved to multiplication Students can also use flash cards–it is a great idea to have some in the car! The memorization of math facts is crucial to learning multiplication and division algorithms. Thank you!
Science: We will be continuing the sedimentary rock lesson next week. In the lesson, students gather evidence to describe how environments on Earth have changed over time. Students explore how the process of sedimentary rock formation preserves a record of those past environments. In the activity, Canyon Explorer, students observe fossils found within a model canyon. The characteristics of those fossils provide evidence to support the explanation that the landscape has changed numerous times.
Social Studies: Corrected NE State tests will be in your child’s filer on Monday. Our next set of states are the SE States and study sheets were passed out last Friday. Study sheets and online practice links for the test are also located on the 4A webpage in the Map Study Sheet link at the side of the page. The SE State test will take place on November 8th. We will then have a NE/SE combo test on November 15th. Our classwork is centered around the Native People of Washington State.
Veterans Day: On Tuesday, we will send home directions and a blank flag for the Veterans Day Flag project. I will go over the project in detail in class as well so that the students know what to do. The project is due no later than next Wednesday, November 6th. On November 8th, we will have a special classroom prayer service to honor the Veterans using these flags. If you do not know a Veteran you can honor, you can research databases online with profiles of Veterans. Here is one site we have used in the past.
