Dear 4A Families,
Happy last week of May. I hope you have enjoyed the Memorial Day Holiday weekend. Field Day was great fun on Friday, beautiful weather and fun events. I am taking a personal day on Tuesday. The students will be in the very capable hands of Mrs. Robel.
Language Arts: The students will be finishing up their final entry in their Flat Stanley journal and sharing highlights of their journals with the class. We will also be typing out and putting together our personal quote project posters. Thank you for your assistance with the quotes.
Spelling: We will have a spelling test this Friday. The May 29th spelling words can be found here and were also passed out to the students last Thursday. The words on this test continue to review how to make words plural. The list contains some repeat challenge words. I meant to take them off of the list–the students are welcome to do them again for extra credit. On Friday, along with the regular spelling test, I will be giving the students some surprise words in singular form, and the students will be asked to write them as plurals to practice their understanding of the rules. We will practice the rules in class each day this week.
Reading: We are continuing to read and discuss the story called Energy Island written by Allan Drummond. This story is about how a community uses renewable energy resources. The essential question focuses on how our energy resources have changed over the years. We will be discussing nonrenewable and renewable energy and understanding new vocabulary that connects with the story.
Math: On Tuesday, we review our chapter on decimals. Tuesday HW is also a test review. Thank you for going over the HW with your children so they are prepared. We will take the chapter test on Wednesday which will follow the same format as the Tuesday night HW. We will then move into work with measurement along with review of the important concepts we have covered this year.
Social Studies:. The Washington State Feature Map test is Friday the 29th. All students have study sheets and an online option to prepare. There will be a word bank for this test. Our classwork this week is all about early Seattle History—including the Denny Party!
Science: The last two lessons we will cover for this unit are focused around gravitational energy and nonrenewable vs renewable energy. Our science unit also connects with the story Energy Island we are listening to and discussing in reading class. Students will be participating in discussions around the content, videos, and vocabulary that go along with the energy unit. The last unit test will be on June 4th.
Religion: Students finish up booklets and review the 8 Beatitudes. We will take an open-book test on the chapter June 2nd.
Here’s to a great week ahead! Thank you for helping keep your children organized and focused these last weeks of school.
