Week of October 19-23

Dear 4A Families,

The 4th grade students are very busy with their saint reports and preparations for the upcoming Masses. More detailed information on this topic is below.

Be on the lookout for the Mid-Trimester reports in your child’s filer on Monday.  These reports provide a snapshot of your child’s progress up to this point.  The reports only include standard-based grades.  When you come for your child’s conference in November, the report you receive will include both percentages and standard-based grades.  Note, no students will receive 4’s in this first report as we are early on in our studies.  I am very proud of the great progress the students have made so far!  Let me know if you have any questions.

If you have not already done so, please consider a donation to the Annual Fund Drive. We are just under halfway to our goal of $225,000.  Your support helps ensure our students continue to benefit from essential programs like art, library, music, PE, Spanish, and technology — all vital to educating the whole child.  Let’s keep the momentum going! Help us reach our fundraising and participation goals by encouraging friends and family to contribute to the Fall Fund Drive. Every gift makes a difference!

All Saints Day Masses!

Parish All Saints Day Mass: Sunday, November 1st at 10:00am

School All Saints Day Mass: Wednesday, November 4th at 8:45.

We will be assigning the speaking parts for the masses early this week.  Thank you for emailing regarding your availability to attend the Sunday, November 1st Parish All Saints Day Mass with your child. If you have not yet let me know if you will or will not be able to attend, please do so by Monday. We will be sending more details about what you will need to do at home to help prepare the students for these special Masses.

Circle of Grace

Next week we will be engaging with the Archdiocesan Curriculum called Circle of Grace. A letter on pink paper was sent home last week and should be in your child’s filer with details on the lesson objectives.  The 4th grade lessons center around online safety, the influence of social media on our relationships, and guidelines for using social media safely.

Spelling: The spelling words for the week will be in your child’s filer on Monday. The words this week all contain vowel sounds /yoo/, /oo/. Due to no school this Friday, October 23rd this spelling test will take place on Tuesday, October 27th.

Math: This week we start Topic 3, which is a deep dive into understanding multiplication of larger numbers. There are many important foundational concepts that are taught in this chapter that help prepare students for the upcoming objectives. These concepts can be challenging for fourth graders! Please make sure your child is practicing their multiplication facts at least 3x per week for 10 minutes. Flash or playing cards to multiply can be a fun and effective supplement to XtraMath.

Science: Looking ahead we will have a plate tectonics lab utilizing graham crackers (to represent the earth’s crust), rice crackers (to represent lighter continental crust) and icing (to represent the mantle). Please contact Mrs. Estep (mestep@holyrosaryws.org) if your child cannot touch or consume any of the three lab ingredients.

Social Studies:   Corrected NE State tests will be in your child’s filer on Monday.  The next set of states the students will be reviewing are the SE states.  All students will have a study sheet in their filer early this week.  Extra practice sheets and links to online practice sites can be accessed on the 4A webpage. Our classwork is focusing on the Coastal and Plateau people of Washington State.  Students will be able to compare and contrast these groups as they learn about the physical features of our state.

Here’s to a great week!
