Dear 4A Families,
I hope all of our wonderful 4th grade moms had a lovely Mother’s Day and that you were treated with lots of love! Thank you so much for all of the sweet cards, flowers and gifts for Teacher Appreciation Week—I am truly thankful for all of you–and so appreciative!
We will continue with our MAP testing this week in the areas of reading and math. Testing days will be Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Parents, thank you for completing your hours that support our school community! A reminder that school volunteer hours must be submitted by May 31st under your Parent Portal account. Volunteer hours that are done in June (Baccalaureate Dinner, New Parent Orientation, Crosswalk, or 8th grade graduation as examples) can be estimated and submitted by the May 31st deadline. Incomplete volunteer hours will be charged in June
The field trip to the Science Center was great fun last week. Thank you to all of the parents that drove and chaperoned! We appreciate you.
Two field trip forms will come home this week! One on yellow paper for Field Day on May 22nd, and the other on blue paper for our final field trip to Alki Beach on June 10th.

If you are wearing “jungle themed” attire for your act, you do not need to change for rehearsals. If you are playing drums, you do not need to come to rehearsals, but please bring your drum set to the gym on Thursday after school or Friday morning before 8:30am. We have a piano.
All other students not in the Talent Show: Please get your “jungle” spirit outfit ready for next week’s Talent Show on Friday, May 15! Act 1 will begin at 9:00AM and Act 2 will begin at 1:15PM in the HRS gym.
Flat Stanley: The Flat Stanley Journals are due Tuesday the 19th, but I would love any students that have their home entries completed to turn them in this Friday so I can get a start on grading. At home the students should have completed 2-3 well-composed final copy entries, with pictures. We will complete a final wrap-up entry at school and add some finishing touches on the journals. All students that have NOT completed their Flat Stanley at School entry will need to bring their journals to and from school each week to get this completed. Those students that have already completed this entry are welcome to work on any other final drafts at school this week.
Reading: Along with the Map reading test we will be doing a variety of reading activities related to our realistic fiction theme both our anthologies and some supplemental resources.
Spelling: The words for the week all have open syllables with long vowel sounds. The test will be this Friday.
Math: Along with MAP testing we will be continuing to work on our next chapter, decimals and fractions. We will be using place value to add and subtract decimal fractions, compare and order decimals and work on a problem solving investigation determining if there is extra or missing information.
Religion: The students will continue to work on their Beatitude booklets this week. We have been learning about ways we can “LIVE” the Beatitudes in our daily lives through our actions and interactions with classmates, family and friends.
Social Studies: Look for corrected Washington region tests in your child’s filer on Monday. Our final map test of the year will be —–Washington State Features. This test will take place on May 29th. This test also has an online practice site students can use to review as well. Early Washington State. The students will be learning about Mother Joseph and her amazing contributions to the Northwest—including Washington’s first hospital, and the Denny Party.
Science: This week we are continuing to review of Unit 3: The Human Machine. Students will fill out a study guide in class and practice their knowledge by studying on Kahoot. The test will be on Thursday the 14th.
Hard to believe we are in the last five weeks of the school year! Thank you for continuing to help keep your children attentive and focused as we still have so much important learning ahead! Have a wonderful week everyone.
