I hope everyone had a nice weekend. We have a busy, but exciting couple of weeks ahead!
Picture Retakes will be this Monday, October 18th. If you would like your child to retake pictures, please let me know as soon as possible, if you haven’t already done so.
Hopefully you have started to plan your child’s saint costume. Let me know if you have any questions. This is also a reminder that each child may have up to 2 guests attend mass with them. Please fill out the Google Form before Monday, October 18th. If you do not have any adult family members able to attend, please mark “0” on the form. We will use this data to make a seating chart that keeps everyone safely distanced.
Mid-Trimester Reports will be sent home on Tuesday, October 26th. Look for an envelope in your child’s filer. Please sign and return the envelope only–keep the mid-tri. Thank you.
Touching Safety Program: Holy Rosary School, along with all the schools in the Archdiocese, will continue teaching the sexual abuse prevention program called Touching Safety. This program is provided to us by the Archdiocese of Seattle and is part of our ongoing effort to help create and maintain a safe environment for children and protect all children from sexual abuse. We will be teaching two lessons again this year. The first will be this month (October), the second in March. For more information check the information on this page. The topic of the October lesson is Boundaries: Students learn about personal boundaries and how identifying and honoring those boundaries can give a child or young person the self assurance needed to speak up when someone tries to step over the line. If you do not wish your child to take part in these lessons you will need to fill out this opt out form and return it to school by this Wednesday, October 20th. Thank you.
Religion: Continue to practice the Prayer of St. Francis. It is a great bedtime prayer, and practicing right before you go to sleep helps with retention! All students need to be able to recite the prayer from memory by October 25th. All students will individually recite the prayer during class. Thank you! We will be going over the details of the All Saints Day Mass with the students this week, and those students selected to read during the Mass will come home with their readings to practice.
Reading: We are continuing our journey in Charlotte’s Web. Our target skills while reading include vocabulary acquisition, character traits, themes, and oral reading fluency (expression, pacing and volume). We will also continue our Postcards from the Barn this week. Ask your child about our vocabulary words from chapters 1, 2, and 3: runt, injustice, blissful, manure, enchanted, perspiration, and reconsider.
Spelling/LA: Our spelling words this week all contain the long “a” sound. Unit 3 long a. Lists are available in the above tabs, in Google Classroom and in the most recent pick up. The test will be on Friday, October 22nd. The students are hard at work on their saint reports and their postcard from the barn! We have some wonderful writers in 4th grade.
Math: Look in your child’s filer this week for the corrected Chapter 2 Math Assessment. Chapter 3 will focus on understanding multiplication and division. Please continue to have your child practice facts on Xtra Math. By the end of this week, all students will be working on multiplication facts. They should know all facts 0-12 and be able to recall them efficiently and accurately.
Social Studies: The students will be tested on the NE State locations and abbreviations this Friday the 22nd. Students should know both the abbreviations and the locations of these 11 states along with some added regional features (listed on the study sheets).
Science: Last week, we finished up our senses stations. Students took a short quiz, and the corrected quizzes will be in your child’s filer on Monday. This week, we will dive into memory and reaction time. Students will think about how their brains function during quick movement tasks.
