Dear 4A Families,
Girls on the Run: We will continue to meet every Tuesday and Thursday until 4:30. Now that your girls have their cinch sacks, please help to set a routine to make sure she remembers her cinch sack with all of the materials for each practice. You can use the cinch sack to pack her clothes and shoes each day as well. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Benson or Ms. McNerney.Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful Easter and spring vacation. We now are in the final stretch of the year—hard to believe. Hopefully the students are rested up and ready to go! As we head into these final weeks and the weather gets nicer, it can be easy to lose focus and dream of summer, but so much important curriculum remains which will set the stage for 5th grade. Thank you for your support in keeping your child focused and attentive to projects, test preparation and homework. Be sure you check your child’s filer regularly for corrected papers. Students are asked to put corrected work in the front pocket, but I often find it in other sections.
Zoomers: We will have some additional 4th grade zoomers this week. We ask that zoomers log in by 8:30.
Lunches of Love: 4th Grade is signed up for Lunches of Love during the month of April. This is a cherished Holy Rosary tradition, and we are honored to continue it this month. Items that make good lunches include nuts/trail mix, fruit cups, protein bars, individually packaged chips/crackers, Vienna sausages, jerky, ritz cheese/crackers (shelf-stable only), and a plastic spoon/fork. Water is the drink of choice. We also encourage students and families to write an encouraging and positive note with each lunch (no names, please). Families, please bring non-perishable lunches to the school office, Monday through Friday from 9am to 3pm all month. The students will decorate one bag this week to bring home as a reminder to make Lunches of Love this month.
Uganda and Rice Bowls: Thank you all for your generous donations to support our Ugandan students as well as the Rice Bowls. 4A collected a total of $186. I’m humbled by all of your generosity! Even though Lent is over, students can still make donations to Uganda.
iPads: This is a friendly reminder to please have your child’s iPad charged and ready for school every day. There have been a number of students who have been forgetting their iPads or bringing uncharged iPads to school. This is especially important for Tuesdays because we attend music class on Zoom. In addition, please make sure your child has headphones that s/he can leave at school for everyday use. Thank you!
Religion: This week we will be reflecting on the Easter Season and making Easter Candle Crosses to decorate our classroom and hallway. Zoomers will have access to a template they can run off. If you do not have access to a printer, the students will design rough drafts this week, then complete their crosses when they return next week. Our Ten Commandment lessons will also continue.
Math: This week, we’ll be finishing up our last few lessons of the chapter about improper fractions and mixed numbers. There will be homework as usual on Monday and Wednesday nights. Wednesday’s homework involves finding real world examples of mixed numbers and improper fractions. Have fun with it! The test on this chapter will be next week.
Science: This week, we are continuing our study of sound. Students will do a few more experiments with their homemade paper cups. Give them a try! They really do work! Also, we will do some science reading with our Science Spin magazine.
Social Studies: Our work this week will focus on some of the early history of Washington State and our map work will focus on the regions of our state. The students will be learning about the physical and economic features of the regions and some of our State Symbols.
Reading: This week, we will be doing a quick study of the story “The World According to Humphrey”. Students will create a brochure that explores the story and focuses on the skills of writing complete responses and making inferences. Students should be continuing to read and take notes for their Oral Biography projects. Next week a good portion of our LA time will be spend working on our this project.
Language Arts/Spelling: There will be a spelling test on Thursday this week. All of the words have the suffix “er”. Some of our writing work this week will be integrated in our religion and social studies lessons, along with work on building quality sentences that use interesting word choice, content vocabulary and figurative language. The students will also be writing a fun point of view piece related to our reading story this week.
