Week of April 20-24

Hello 4A Families,

Monday Video from Ms. Simpson: IMG_4063

Welcome back.  I hope you all had a great Spring Break.  We really lucked out with the weather for sure.  This email will be a little long as we have some important changes underway for our distance learning.  Thank you all for your support and patience as we learn the Google Classroom platform.  I do believe it will be a good change, and that the students will be able to figure it out quickly.  While we get used to this new format I will send daily emails (the night before), but the hope is that by next week we will only need to send out the Monday message and you will get the rest of the information on Google Classroom.

First and foremost–please get your child signed up for Google Classroom using the link/invitation that was sent out on Friday.  Students need to use their HR gmail address.  Once signed up students can use their iPads to access Google Classroom.  They may need to download the app from Self Service.

4A Webpage–The 4A webpage will still contain links and general info, but you will be directed to go to Google Classroom for daily assignments, PDF’s and classwork links.

Zoom and Updated Distance Learning Expectations: For the students to have a positive learning experience online, where they’re free to listen and learn without disruptions, we have created a Zoom classroom behavior management plan. Please read the attached PDF for information.  I will be going over these expectations with the students in our Zoom meeting on Monday as well. Thank you for your support in keeping the students focused and attentive to tasks and meetings. One thing I did not include was that students are encouraged to use headphones or earbuds during Zoom meetings to reduce distractions and improve focus.

Our 4A Zoom Meeting will be at 1:00 on Monday.  The link is on Google Classroom, and I will also send an email about an hour before on Monday with the link.

Uniform Tuesdays!  We are asking the 4th grade students to wear their HR uniform on Tuesdays for the Zoom Meetings.  Teachers will dress up too!  Thank you for your support!

I would love you all to send me a photo of your child in their oral biography costume.  I like to have these photos for my end of the year slideshow, plus the students will need a picture in their costume for the LA project they are doing this week.  If you did not take a picture, you could always dress up one more time this week to get the picture.  Thank you!

From Beth Martin Regarding the HR Auction:

Everyone needs an escape about now, even if it’s just a virtual one. Imagine palm trees swaying in the wind, a ukulele being strummed in the background and the smell of Plumeria in the air. Holy Rosary can transport you, at least virtually, to Hawaii for 2 hours on Saturday, April 25.

Due to school being cancelled for the remainder of the year, Holy Rosary School’s largest fundraiser, our annual auction, needs to be moved ONLINE.  The great news is you don’t need a ticket to participate.  EVERYONE IS INVITED! On Thursday, April 23 over 100 items that would’ve been in the Silent Auction will be up for bid through Saturday, August 25. The Live Auction will take place over a two-hour period on the evening of Saturday, April 25.

Our Fund A Need, closing Sunday, April 26, has a new focus as we move through this new reality.  All proceeds from this year’s Fund A Need will go towards providing scholarships for those students in our community whose families are facing financial hardships. We are blessed to be a part of an amazing community at HRS and communities take care of one another, so join us in supporting the Fund A Need this year.

On Thursday the 23rd in support of the auction all students are encouraged to wear Hawaiian themed clothing–especially during the Zoom Meetings.
